Description
Description
Super rare wheels from Mavic's first mountain bike specific gruppo. The Paris Gao Dakar group was made for mountain bike support riders during the Paris-Gao-Dakar race of 1987, and went on to be used for MTB assistance riders at MTB World Cup the next few years into the early 1990's. These iconic components are easily spotted with their day-glo pastel decals. The rims are the much loved M231 CD in hard anodized dark grey, often listed as everyone's fav mtb rims of the era. Hubs are Mavic 500 in silver with quick releases. The Paris Gao Dakar hubs were literally just these hubs with the colorful decal down the center. These are top choices for your retro mtb restoration, from your Klein Attitude to Ritchey P-21 to Fat Chance Yo Eddy Team.
Condition
Rear wheel is truly NOS and appears never installed. Rim shows zero marks from a brake pad touching it. Hub is just about perfect. Front wheel looks like it was ridden just a few miles. There's a couple lines of wear in the brake track ano, and the hub's finish is a bit hazy in spots and could use some light polishing. Both hubs are buttery smooth. Rims are true to within 1mm. Perfect for your show bike!

I'm always buying high end bikes, parts, accessories, memorabilia, etc. While I'm particularly seeking large piles of new old stock parts, used items in nice condition are welcome.
