Vintage Paul MotoLite Z Linear Pull V Brakeset: Silver - Late 1990's (Near Mint)

This is an early version of the Motolite Z brakes for your retro MTB restoration!  The obvious difference is these have large milled out areas around the cutout.  This was removed at some point to allow the brake pad collars to adjust further up the arms allowing a larger adjustment range for using 650b wheels on a 26" wheel frame or 26" wheels on a frame built for 20" rims.  This version appears in the 2000 Paul Components catalog (see pics).  I believe it was released before then in this version, though I cannot determine for sure.  Sometime after 2000, they added a second cutout within this milled area.

These are designed for use with v-brake levers.  These are my favorite rim brakes of all time.  They are super easy to set up and adjust.  The power and modulation are as good or better than most mechanical disc brakes or a lower end hydraulic disc brake, something no other linear pull brake can match.

This brake is 100% machined in-house, from 6061 Aluminum. Like all our brakes, these feature our over-sized sealed pivot sleeves machined to a tolerance of plus or minus one thousandths of an inch. And of course our independently adjustable square wire springs keep everything snappy and balanced.

The quick release mechanism is super simple and always reliable. Why doesn’t everybody do it like this?

Yes, disc brakes are taking over. We’re fine with that (ahem, Klampers), but if you want to keep things simple, avoid that inevitable disc noise, or have a classic Ritchey that’s been hanging in the garage since the early 90’s needing a makeover: these are the brakes for you.

Condition

Near mint, very lightly used.  The ONLY wear on the brakes is ano wear from the pad clamps on the arms.
