Description

This is a rustic and cute bicycle bag, made from a 1940's to 1980's era Swiss military "ration bag".  These were used by the Army to carry personal food in the field when soldiers weren't taking their full pack.  It's constructed of heavy duty canvas, with leather straps, metal rivets/clips, and a vinyl waterproof cover (the back of the pannier).  Each bag was stamped with the soldier's name, base city, and year issued on the top leather strap.

It will easily mount to a handlebar via the top leather straps, to a front or rear pannier rack via the top straps and "belt loops" on the vinyl cover, or similarly as a saddle bag.  Use it for picnic carrying purposes on a romantic date in the park, on your randonneur bike, or even for commuting.

Condition

This bag has a lovely patina, and is free from damage.  It was difficult to photograph (will try again attached to a bike!), but it really is in nice condition.  Leather is supple and flexible.
