Description

This is the first version of the Soma Fabrications Riff XC/Trail hardtail, no longer in production. The V2 changed to more modern "standards" like steeper and shorter seat tube, 148mm boost rear hub and comes only in aqua mint and pearl white. If you like the more neutral blue or you want something closer to your old school hardtail mountain bike this V1 is for you. Included is a Cane Creek Forty headset

This came to me with 3 fork options suitable for it. 1) Rockshox Reba RL 120mm cut to fit, 2) DIY Bikes rigid 482mm A-C cut to fit, and 3) brand new uncut Cotic 482mm A-C (coming tomorrow). All of these are shown with the fork at the end of the pics.

The Riff is our hardtail frame for 27.5″/650b wheels. It replaces the B-Side model. While the B-Side showed our tendency of keeping things old school, the Riff is modern without being trendy with the geometry and features. Tough Broski Sliding Dropouts allow you to go single-speed or geared or even run hub gears. Compatible with 12x142mm thru-axle hubs . A modified chainstay allows fitting even some double cranks with “plus size” 2.8″ wide tires without needing to invest in Boost parts. We even offer a belt-drive ready version.

Condition

Excellent to near mint lightly used shape. Zero dents/dings/bends/damage. Paint wear is pretty minor and scattered. The most obvious spots include a deep scratch on the top of the top tube a few inches from the head tube, small chips on the flat part of the DS chainstay, a few pinpoint chips on the seatstays, scuffing on bottom of non-driveside chainstay. This is well nicer than average wear for a mtb. Once built from a few feet away this will look close to new condition.

  • Standard or Belt-Drive compatible versions available (split for installing belt is on the seatstay.)

  • IRD Broski Sliding Dropouts allows geared and single-speed builds with easy wheel removal

  • S-bend seatstays and chainstays

  • Rear rack and fender eyelets

  • CNC-machined 44mm headtube: Will fit 1-1/8″ steerers with a ZeroStack 44 headset or fit tapered steerers with a ZS44 upper assembly and external cup (EC44) lower assembly

  • 31.6mm post size/34.9mm frt. der. size/34.9mm seat collar(not included), 400mm(or longer) post recommended. 

  • Dropper post cable routing runs on downtube and inside the seat tube

  • 73mm bottom bracket (English threads) 

  • These come ready for 142 x 12mm Thru-Axle hubs. (Can be converted to 135mm spacing for traditional QR hubs with IRD aftermarket inserts)
