Jan Heine from Bicycle Quarterly and Rene Herse designed these knobby tires to be plush and fast beyond belief.  They are designed to be clinchers with a similar ride feel/quality as silk racing tubulars.  These use the same ultra supple casings as their legendary Rat Trap Pass file pattern tire, and hand glue on a tread of large, widely spaced lugs.  This combination allows the tire to run almost as fast on pavement as the Rat Trap, but bites into loose surfaces like a dedicated gravel or cyclocross/mtb tire.  Get these endurance casing versions for your gnarly Colorado gravel rides complete with ruts and rocks.
