Description

This brake cable is great for early retro mountain bikes.  The cable is thicker than modern cables (2mm vs 1.6mm), and has 2 ends; a standard end that will work with any modern mountain bike style brake lever, and an oversized end that will only work with early mountain bike brake levers.  These are made to work with 6mm cable housing.  They will fit in standard 5mm housing, but just barely and will have friction.  

These are great for early mountain bike levers that need this type of large end (see below), and are great for touring bikes.  They are stronger and less likely to brake.  They're also less prone to stretch under heavy loads.  

Motorcycle-style levers like early XT Deerhead M700, Suntour Power, and Tomaselli levers used this end.  Many levers came with concave "shims" that fit around the head of a modern cable end to fit the larger opening.  This style of cable is a better fit, and removes the risk of losing the shim (which are IMPOSSIBLE to find).  These are Giant branded, and manufactured in 1989.
