Description
Description
Super bargain on a high end Grandis Special frame, due to a dent on the downtube. Grandis had three somewhat distinct high end models from the late 1960's to early 1980's, though being a small builder there was a lot of mismatching frame components due to what was on hand at the moment or what the builder was feeling. This one is a very early 1980's "Special Campione Del Mondo" which was the only high end model still made by 1980. It has all the features detailed for this model below, except it retains the twin-loop top tube cable guides from the 1975-1980 versions. So this could be a very early example from this period, or maybe the builder just felt this frame would look better with twin loops. Dropouts on these came drilled for Campagnolo Porta-Catena.
Here's a Grandis pantographed Campagnolo aero seatpost for it!
Model info from a Bike forum post
Early 70's (74-77) Grandis Super Leggera: Key feature is the "club shape" motif cutout set within the head tube and in original state, there was a "Super Leggera" decal on the top tube. Can be with /without pump boss. Top of seat stays have 5 circles/dots of varying size engraved in a row. Separate clips for rear brake cabling on top tube. Some frames feature (probably added later?) braze-ons to the top (and occasionally even underside) of the top tube, to enable replacement of the original cable guide clips. Derailleur cable guides are braze- ons to the top of bottom bracket (BB). Triple cut-outs to BB. Fork has "club" motif to crown. No engravings to head tube itself. After 1977 it appears that the Super Leggera continued with the longer pointed lugs but were simplified without the club shape on the head tube lug. the club shape was retained on the curved rear brake and chain stay bridge ends. "Grandis" was engraved on the seat stayshoulders. The fork changed to the same one as the "Special/Campione del Mondo" (engraved G and wreath), the head tube similarly and "Made in Italy" appeared beneath on some, but not all.
1969 -75 Grandis Special Gran Prix: Key feature is the cutout "G" set within the head tube and in original state, there was a "Special Gran Prix" decal on the top tube. Otherwise same features as Super Leggera. Fork typically has "G" recessed on horizontal crown, though I've seen the Super Leggera "Club" crown fork often with this model too..
1975-80 Grandis Special/Campione del Mondo (the frame I have): Engraved head tube with G, victory wreath and Made in Italy. Shorter point lugs than Super Leggera and Grand Prix, "Grandis" engraved on seat stays, twin loop guides to top tube, engraved head tube, derailleur guides to top of BB. Fork has victory wreath and letter G shallow engraved on horizontal fork crown. Twin cut-outs to BB. The Portacatena drillings indicate my frame is post 1977. Some earlier Grandis frames (60s-early70s) without top tube cable loops can be very plain with horizontal brake bridge and seat stays and horizontal fork crowns without engravings, plus no cut-outs to bottom bracket. Head tubes are plain or only engraved with the G and victory wreath, not the "Made In Italy" beneath.
1980-83 Grandis Special/Campione del Mondo: single loop guides to top tube, derailleur guides now on underside of BB. Fork has G standing proud in oval on sloping fork crown. 3 x pairs of cut-outs to BB.
Condition
This one is priced super cheap (and sold AS-IS) due to a decent but not huge dent on the bottom of the downtube and a smattering of touched up paint spots. The dent is on the bottom non-driveside facing face of the downtube just below the "A". It's roughly quarter or thumbprint sized. It's shown as best as I could in the photos. No other dents/dings/rust. The paint has a lot of touch up spots and general wear. Photos depict condition accurately.

I'm always buying high end bikes, parts, accessories, memorabilia, etc. While I'm particularly seeking large piles of new old stock parts, used items in nice condition are welcome.
