Item Condition

I grade products as honestly as possible and depict blemishes in both description and photos—please study them carefully. I tend to be overcritical and customers report items to be in better shape than expected often. From best condition to worst condition, my grading scale is as follows. Mint / near mint+ / near mint / excellent+ / excellent / great / very good / average / fair.

Description

As with all bikes, if you can pick this up in Fort Collins, Colorado we'll give you a much better price!  Email/call if you're interested.

This is quite the unique bike!  It's a mid 1990's high end frame/fork, built with high end parts from about 2009.  It's standout feature is it's adjustable, sliding rear dropouts.  These allow you to change the geometry by shortening the wheel base.  At it's shortest setting, the ride will be optimized for hill climbing and sprinting with super quick handling (much more so than almost all other road bikes).  In the longest setting, it will be optimized for all day rides and comfort.  It's super stiff yet vertically compliant, and reaffirms the saying "Steel is Real" everytime you mash the pedals.  It'll last longer than your legs and back will with proper care.

THE BUILD:

This one's built to the hilt with nothing but high end parts!  The highlights of the build are a FULL 10-speed Campagnolo Centaur carbon group (one step below Chorus), and a lavishly beautiful wheelset with White Industries H2/H3 hubs on Mavic Open Pro rims.  The wheelset alone would retail for about $1000!  These things spin FOREVER!  My personal Independent Fabrications has Campy Record 10sp, and I can't tell a performance difference between that and this Centaur group.

THE HISTORY:

GIOS-Torino is a prestigious Italian frame builder, who has been making bikes since 1947.  They have a storied history of building bikes for many winning international-level racers.  Their flagship model is the traditional racing geometry "GIOS Record", and the Evolution Compact line is their more modern high end offering.  The Gios Evolution Compact Pro was made from 1987 through the mid 1990's.  This one looks identical to the 1994 catalog (see pics for a scan), so I am assuming mid 1990's.  Earlier models were made of Columbus SLX, then Oria Ranf, and finally Dedacciai Superlite.  This one doesn't have a tubing sticker, but my best guess is Dedacciai.

FRAME SIZE:

This is a med/large 56cm COMPACT frame, which will fit someone roughly 5ft 8 to 6ft 1.  Seat tube measures 56cm (c-t), top tube measures 54cm (c-c).  This 2cm difference between top tube and seattube lengths is rare on steel frames, and fits more like a modern carbon/aluminum road frame than a 1970's traditional racing bike.

CONDITION:

The bike has been well taken care of, and is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition!  It's been given a full professional tuneup, and is ready to ride.  Drivetrain shows little wear.  Tires, cables, pads, chain, cassette all have plenty of life left (easily more than 75-80%).  The frame is straight, with NO cracks, bends, dents, gouges, or rust.  Brand new faux-leather Vetta bar tape with GIOS end plugs.  Wheelset is pristine!  The rims are true as an arrow, and properly tensioned.  Hubs spin forever with zero signs of wear or grit in the bearings.  Brake tracks have very light rim wear.  Paint is overally in excellent shape.  Minimal scratching, but there are a couple paint chips (one mid-way back on the top tube, the other at the tip of the downtube-head tube lug. See pics).  Decals look great.  All components are in excellent condition, with no blemishes worth noting.

I'm always buying high end bikes, parts, accessories, memorabilia, etc. While I'm particularly seeking large piles of new old stock parts, used items in nice condition are welcome.
