Description

Very early Campy QR skewers, from the 3-piece Gran Sport hubs with steel center shell! These are second generation of Campagnolo-made skewers, running from the late 1940's to mid/late 1950's.  They are coined the Dog Bone or Frankenstein skewer due to the twin tensioning bolts of the end nuts (replaced in 3rd gen late 50's with the "D" ring tensioner that ran through the 1980's). Note the frankenstein bolts are not original, the originals being dome end hex bolts. This is the "Italy" version, while some of this generation were made in Campy's Cognin, France factory and said "France" where the Italy usually is.

The first gen of Campy-made skewers ran from 1938 to the mid/late 1940's had a thinner lever blade with a "wheel" at it's end and text in two lines on top of each other. Before that from 1933 to 1937 were made by FB, and had a round QR lever blade among many other differences.

Condition

Near mint lightly used shape. Cam ends are very clean without scratching/scuffs/scrapes! Show bike worthy with a lovely light patina. Note that the rear skewer's finish is a bit more bronze tinted for some reason.

I'm always buying high end bikes, parts, accessories, memorabilia, etc. While I'm particularly seeking large piles of new old stock parts, used items in nice condition are welcome.
