Description
Description
Rare very early version of the 992! This is the exact same frame Sean Kelly famously won the 1992 Milan-Sanremo on. Vitus's frames are named for the year they were introduced. The legendary 979 was thus introduced in 1979, and the 992 in 1992! The purple color and these decals only ran for a couple years, making this most likely a 1992 or 1993 model. In later years it was called the 992 Ovoid, but it's the same frame with a different finish/decals.
The 992 features oversized tubing which is ovalized at the ends to fit into a tapered aero headtube and bb shell. That oversized headtube features a semi-integrated headset. These features make it much stiffer/stronger than the notoriously flexible 979. They also didn't delaminate the way the 979 did.
Included in the sale is the stock headset (needle bearing integrated unit branded Vitus and made by Stronglight) and Vitus branded seatpost in 25.4mm (rumored made by Mavic or CLB). These are both very rare parts to find on the marketplace, and it's lucky they come with the frame!
Condition
Excellent used shape! Zero dents, cracks, bends, dings, delaminating. Anodizing is not faded! Quite minimal scratches on the anodized tubing, light cosmetic wear on polished alloy parts. The decals on the driveside are near mint, but the non-driveside decals have some wear (replacement decal sets are available on Ebay and elsewhere, or remove the decals for a sleek look!). Headset feels great.

I'm always buying high end bikes, parts, accessories, memorabilia, etc. While I'm particularly seeking large piles of new old stock parts, used items in nice condition are welcome.
