Description
Description
This exceedingly rare early Campy seat pin is a 1957 Gran Sport. The first year it was shown in catalogs was 1956, though nobody has ever seen one. If you are restoring a 1950's Bianchi Tour De France, Campione Del Mondo, or countless other 1950's and early 1960's bikes. Great talking piece for your L'Eroica show bicycle. The steel GS post was made from 1956 to 1959. It changed to alloy construction in 1960, and gained the Gran Sport name on the side. In 1963, it became the Record #1044 two-bolt seatpost we all know.
This is positively identified as a 1957 via Hiroshi Ichikawa's Hi Campy website (no longer active, but see screenshot in photos). The main identifying features are the slot down the middle of the clamp extends all the way to the horizontal shaft on the early year 57', and the later year 1957 through 1959 it stops above the radius of the clamp curve. Additionally, on the earlier posts the world logo has 18 radiating lines like this one. On later ~1958(?) and 1959 there are only 10 lines.
Condition
Excellent used shape, show bike worthy for some! No rust! The chrome is shiny and clear in most spots, though there is some light brown discoloring in spots. There is light zig zag insertion lines down low and continuing up higher on the back edge of the shaft. The clamp and hardware are in great shape, with just some chrome wear on the bolt wrench flats.

I'm always buying high end bikes, parts, accessories, memorabilia, etc. While I'm particularly seeking large piles of new old stock parts, used items in nice condition are welcome.
