Description

The late 1980's and early 1990's was a time of radical experimentation with carbon in the road bike world.  Bicycles such as the Cinelli Laser, Bottecchia Pursuit, Colnago C35, and the Cinetica Giotto (the bike these bars were made for) and their monocoque represented a dramatic shift from the level top tube steel bikes of the previous several decades.  The Cinetica Giotto was a collaboration between Andrea Cinelli (son of Cino Cinelli), Campagnolo, and Ferrari.  It was produced in very limited numbers, and has been immortalized by an appearance in Terminator 2: Judgement Day as well as a well known poster with the Giotto posed atop a Ferrari 308 in fire engine red.

These bars allow for adjustment to the width of the handlebars and the length of the stem, via bolts on the back of the carbon section.  The carbon center piece slides over individual alloy handlebar drops and the stem's quill extension.  The idea was to allow quick changes between riders for professional teams.  These would also be an invaluable tool for bike fitters and custom frame builders.

On the side of the stem there is a stamp of a big "S", with "C" and "M" inside it.  Unknown meaning.

Condition

Great to excellent used shape.  Alloy pieces look great with only minimal light marks.  Carbon is in excellent shape with no damage.  There are a few places where the clear coat has that opaque look.  This could be lightly standed down and a clear coat re-applied for a very clean looking bar.  Stem has a few marks on the vertical shaft, most of which will be inside the headtube.
