It was a high dollar upgrade to the XTR CS-M900 and CS-M900 in the mid 1990s.  It wasn't just a standard cassette made to be ultralight, its designed to shift better than the Shimano\/SRAM cassettes. It has a pointy shark tooth design that does away with the need for shift ramps\/gates which eliminates ghost shifting and shifting delays due to the chain riding on top of the cogs.
