I acquired this bicycle from the owner of a former bicycle shop in New Hampshire. The shop owner attended the 1984 New York Bicycle Show, and purchased this bike there. At this show, Campagnolo showed prototypes of the C-Record group to the bike industry for the first time. I was told this is one of the bikes it was displayed on! It has a complete 1984 prototype C Record group, including the elusive Delta brakes with the quick release (some estimate between 12 and 250 of these were made) The owner received a call from a Campagnolo executive a few days after the show, stating that the bike was not supposed to have been sold, and they want it back! I have not been able to determine the significance of this decal. The bike truly appears unridden, with extremely little wear. It has likely been test ridden over the years, but has no real miles. They did not have adequate stopping power, thus they were subtly redesigned before the gruppo was released to the public in 1986. The bike is adorned by many Pinarello pantographs. The chainring, fork crown, seatstay ends, seatpost, brakes, levers, shifters, and stem are all pantographed with red fill. The original Cinelli leather handlebar covering was hand-stitched, and is a decidedly luxurious fitting. Like all Montello models, the frame does not have a chainstay bridge. A) causing the jockey cage to alter itself to suit the increasing diameters of the freewheel cogs. At the same time, a rigid, stainless steel arm on the diagonal of the parallelogram moves the cage plate along the freewheel (fig. B) guiding the chain from one cog to another. The movement of the parallelogram is controlled by a return spring. This spring is not, however, preloaded like on other derailleurs which can cause needless friction. Thanks to the elimination of friction at this point the derailleur's shifting action is much lighter and smoother than other gear changers.

The "TWIN-AXLE System" of the CROCE D'AUNE derailleur is a new break-through in derailleur technology and is destined to set new standards for competition derailleurs. In races like the Giro d'ltalia and Tour de France where steep mountain roads torture both man and machine it is extremely important for the derailleur to perform flawlessly because one missed shift or slipped chain can be the difference between winning and loosing.

Condition

Great used rider condition. Fully functional, buttery smooth pulleys and springs. Scratches throughout.

Details

Model: B010-SM

Short cage (30t cog max)

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0785/5144/9740/files/high_end_vintage_dura_ace_ax_12801__47988.1487900223.1280.1280.jpg?v=1791195371
nib-nos-campagnolo-nuovo-record-strada-high-flange-hubset-24h-120mm
NIB/NOS Campagnolo Nuovo Record Strada High Flange Hubset: 24H - 120mm

120mm rear spacing, post-CSPS, made from 1978-1987. This is a 24 hole version, popular among the ultralight racer crowd in the 1980's. Lace these up with some trick Mavic Cosmic or Wolber Profil rims for a weight weenie approved race wheelset!

High flange NR/SR hubs are the gold standard for classic road bicycle restorations from the 1960's to late 1980's. They are drop dead gorgeous, last forever, spin like butter, and add another level of prestige to your bike!
